What will be the hottest interior design trends for 2020? Thanks to Modsy.com‘s “State of the Home” report we’ll be seeing lots of blue, neutrals, ceiling treatments, sculptural light fixtures, and my favorite – bohemian organic mid-century modern. Yup! That’s a design term.
Pantone Color of the Year: Classic Blue
According to Modsy’s 2019-2020 State of the Home Trend Report, blues are a top choice for color schemes in 2020 for interior design trends. We’re totally here for this serene color, which reminds us of the sky and ocean. This cool color scheme brings serenity and calmness to any space. Plus, Pantone’s 2020 Color of the Year is Classic Blue, so this is a color trend that is sure to stay.
Neutrals
We need to calm down: 2020 has already been one heck of a year and it’s only just begun. From rising stress levels among Americans, it’s enough to make your head spin. So it’s no wonder many are turning away from vibrant and aggressive colors in the home and infusing our rooms with calm and soothing hues instead. Neutrals are a safe bet for any home, and when paired with pops of color in accessories you can change your style as often as you change your mind! Not to mention they help you calm down and feel relaxed at home.
Least popular colors? Neons, pastels, oranges, and yellows. Nixing neon seems obvious.
Ceiling Treatments
Yes, for 2020 we’re turning our design attention to the fifth wall, aka ceilings! Keep an eye out (or up) for painted, wallpapered, and even fabric tented ceiling designs.
Minimalist Maximalist
This trend is exactly what it sounds like—a style that plays with the unlikely combo of a minimalist’s design principles and a maximalist’s love of patterns, colors, textures, and all things over-the-top.
CLUTTER IS OUT, which means the design world is looking for ways to incorporate decoration into furniture. We’re seeing this desire show up in two key places—luxurious materials and sculptural light fixtures.
Bohemian and Organic Mid-Century Modern
We’re seeing a softer, earthier side of the mid-century look come out to play. It’s more eclectic, mixing in worldly patterns, pops of color, natural textures, and lots and lots of plants.
People are starting to think more and more about the environmental impact of home design. We’re seeing a desire among our customers to shop sustainably and invest in quality pieces they can keep for years.
What’s taking a pause:
Mad Men mid-century modern – Everyone was hooked on the show and the décor, but now Modsy says there’s a shift toward pairing mid-century pieces with a more bohemian vibe.
A few years ago a bar cart was the “it” piece of furniture everyone was adding top their spaces and you could certainly create a fab Instagram post with one for a party, but for 202 the trend is becoming fatigued. Home entertaining is entering a more holistic point of view.
